A Fishy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I wish you a happy and healthy New Year.  Oh yeah, and fishy one too.

This year’s goal is to explore areas I have had my eye on for some time but could never find the time.  I am always looking to explore new waters and find new honey holes.

Circle hooks are now mandatory in 2021, when using natural baits if you are targeting striped bass in New Jersey.  I can’t entirely agree with this 100%.

Looking for schoolies

Last weekend of 2020 and was hoping to find some action outfront, it did not happen. It was a pleasant day though.

Gifts For a Surfcaster

Santa was good to this surfcaster. I received a Super Strike popper and a spool of Sufix 832.

The Super Strike little neck is one of my favorite poppers and has earned a spot in my plug bag at all times. A must have lure for all surf casters. (I have many favorite poppers)

Sufix 832 is a great casting line and durable. If you haven’t tried it yet you should.

Like a said before, I will be fishing into the New Year, I just want one more fish before hanging it up.

Lesson from 2020 and a fishing report.

If 2020 is telling us anything. It’s telling us to enjoy the moments.

Nothing better then a cold shower in the morning.

Picture was taken back in early October.

Fished Ocean County today and came a across a school of adult bunker. The school was about 40 – 50 feet from the shore. And a few bunker washed up on the beach.

Weather pending – we might have a few good fish around. I will mostly likely keep fishing into the New Year.

Beautiful weather and striped bass

Took advantage of the nice weather last week and hit the suds with the fly rod. I targeted beaches in Ocean county and it paid off. As soon as I walked on to the beach I started to scan the water and immediately saw bait fish breaking on the surface.

I tied on a white deceiver and made a 50′ cast and was tight after just two strips. This went on for a few hours and died down around noon.

Gear used: 10 wt. rod – 10 wt. fly line – 2/0 white deceiver.

Short walk to the waters edge
The schoolies could not resist the white deceiver

Its never enough

Good fishing on Thursday, if you happen to be at the right place at the right time. Went out again on Friday but this time I could not find bait or fish with stripes. There were plenty of other fisherman having the same problem, “Finding Fish”

I will continue to fish for the next couple of weeks. I believe there is still good fishing to be had along the Jersey Shore for a few more weeks (weather pending)

Just a little windy

11/2/20

I went out in 30+ mph winds and I caught a stripah. That was this big ( 😛 )

Caught on a metal.

Much better

Today’s sunrise bite was much better then past couple of weekends.

The fishing should continue to improve for a few weeks.

Surf casting in October 2020

Not sure how everyone else is doing in the surf but its been a tough October for me. Not many bass around and even the bluefish are playing hard to get.

Fished “Magic Hours” along one of my favorite beaches. Zero fish caught. Will give it a shot again tomorrow.

No other place I rather be.
