Another Beautiful Sunrise

Fyi – most of my fishing is done from Sandy Hook – Belmar

On Sunday, I hit the suds early morning, fished till around 10 am, and could
not locate the fish. No bait and no sign of life.

Today I just heard the beach I fished yesterday had decent action this
AM….. No surprise.

Enjoy the sunrise photo.

Sunrise and Sunset

Hit the surf early Saturday while it was still dark. I fished till an hour after sunrise without a bite. surfcasting-sunrise I went back to the beach in the late afternoon. This time I brought the family with me. I was hoping for some “Magic hour” action. IMG_5320But the fish never showed up.I blame the lack of fish on the tide being to low for the times I picked to fish. I knew this but wanted to give it a shot anyways. Here is a good site for checking tides. Saltwater Tides You can get the app for Iphone and Android. I will be back out in the suds next weekend.  -Tight lines

Breaking Fish

Long cast to breaking fish and I was a few yards too short. If I would of spooled my reel with 30lb braid instead of 50lb test I have no doubt I would of reached this school of fish.

The lesson: Use 30lb braid

Fly Casting – “Practice makes better”

The goal for the weekend was to be out in the suds casting pretty flies to mean and hungry fish. But the suv is still at the Ford dealership receiving some TLC.

The next best thing was to go out on the grass and work on my casting. “Practice makes better”

If you are interested in fly casting or want to improve your cast. I recommend two Dvd’s (yes I said dvds)

1: Left Kreh on Fly Casting

2: Saltwater Fly Casting: 10 Steps to Distance and power by George V Roberts. Two excellent resources for improving your castings skills

Till next week, tight lines.

Fly Casting

Went out Sunday morning to make a few cast on the lawn. “Practice makes better”

Its about that time when big bluefish and stripers are crushing baits in the surf and I want to make sure my casting is on point.

If you have never fly fished in the salt during the fall run, you are missing out. It’s fun and challenging at the same time.

The 10wt outfit is ready now I just need to get to the waters edge.

Stayed tuned for more to come.

Bait and Hook

I had to take a drive into NYC this weekend. I pulled over on 14th & 2nd avenue to take an incoming call. While on the phone I look to my left and see Bait and Hook sign, at first I thought I found a tackle shop, got excited there for a second. I quickly realize that it’s a restaurant.
